La Pietra

Val D'orcia Area (montalcino) - Tuscany - Montepulciano

This recently restored villa is situated on one of the most beautiful and well-positioned hilltops of the Montepulciano area. Located at the center of working farmland, it has breathtaking views of the valley and vineyards producing the world renowned Vino Nobile of Montepulciano. The villa takes its name from the land on which it was built, that is, on particularly rocky earth, made up mainly of tufa stratifications.

Here the warm and dry summers ripen to perfection the grapes from which some of the best Tuscan wines are made. The mosto, or must, from the grapes, spends six months setting in vats before being aged for three years in barrels of light Slavonian durmast oak, finally being refined in bottles for another three years.

This is the perfect spot for a leisurely vacation enjoying authentic Tuscan rural beauty and tranquility, or for visiting the nearby and famous villages full of art and history such as Montepulciano, Pienza, Monticchello and Montalcino. It is also a well-positioned spot from which guests can easily enjoy day excursions to the foremost Tuscan cities of art like Florence, Arezzo and Siena; or the equally satisfying tourist destinations of nearby Umbria, such as Perugia and Assisi.

Montepulciano, which can be seen from the villa, was built on a narrow limestone ridge and is surrounded by city walls and fortifications designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder in 1500, for Cosimo I. The town is known mainly for its impressive Renaissance palaces, its elegant churches and, most certainly, for its Vino Nobile, which has acquired international fame.

The house has a lovely swimming pool (10x5.5m), bordered by fragrant hedges, and is situated on a spot from which guests can enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.
